ASSESSMENT

Task 1: Compile a patient record by observing and questioning to determine the nature and extent of the problem. (15%)

Knowledge of:

  • Components of a patient record
  • Ethnic differences and their impact on assessment process

  • Medical conditions affecting hair growth

Skill in:

  • Organizing patient information

Task 2: Integrate results, discuss options and recommend treatment techniques necessary to solve problem. (15%)

DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A TREATMENT PLAN

Task 1: Inform patient about the modalities to be used to treat problem. (5%)

Knowledge of:

  • Needle and laser modalities
  • Functioning of equipment

  • Communicating effectively
  • Teaching/Educating

Task 2: Prepare patient, physically and psychologically, to facilitate effective and comfortable treatment. (8%)

Knowledge of:

  • Typical patient fears
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Sanitization and hygiene
  • Manufacturer’s specifications and instructions
  • Wavelength of laser being used
  • Proper types of protective laser eye glasses
  • Patient preparation techniques, including waxing and shaving

Task 5: Apply immediate, appropriate post-treatment preparations to treated area to promote healing and advise patient on home-care. (11%)

EVALUATION

Task 1: Evaluate the physical condition of the patient on follow-up visits to determine the after-effects of treatment and to instruct the patient about appropriate post-treatment care. (25%)

  • Psychology
  • Complications

  • Prioritizing and decision making
  • Applying theories of coping and stress
