For most of us, work is stressful in and of itself. Imagine carrying the added emotional weight of having to deny or suppress one of the most fundamental aspects of who you are – your gender identity and sexual orientation – because either one does not conform with society’s norms regarding gender expression. An historic Supreme Court ruling in 2020 outlawed workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The court’s ruling immediately prohibited sexual orientation discrimination nationwide for employers with 15 or more employees.
